Trade Minister Zulhas Will Research On The Entry Of Illegal Imported Goods In The Market

JAKARTA - The Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan admitted that he would research the impact of the entry of illegal imported goods into Indonesia. This includes tracing illegal goods in the market. This step follows the findings of illegal imported goods with a total value of Rp40 billion.

The man who is familiarly called Zulhas said the steps taken were parallel to the action taken by the Special Goods Supervision Task Force, which was SUBJECT to a Commercial Procedure.

"Then the Ministry of Trade, next to the Task Force, we will also do research. Later in the field, how severe this has been," he said at a press conference in Kamal Muara, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, Friday, July 26.

Furthermore, Zulhas said the illegal imported goods found by the task force were sold online through the marketplace. Therefore, he admitted that he would also see how much goods had been circulating.

"We infiltrate illegal goods and are marketed domestically freely, online, the goods are illegal, market them clearly, be free, how many have they been marketed," he said.

Zulhas said that in conducting research and tracing, his party would ask for information from local employers' associations who are in danger of going out of business.

"We will discuss it with associations that are in danger of closing. It turns out that it's not about technical matters (technical considerations), yes, but the most important thing is that the goods that enter illegally are like this," he explained.

Previously, the Task Force for Supervision of Certain Goods Subjected to the Import Commercial Procedure, led by Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan confiscated illegal imported goods worth Rp40 billion in the Kamal Muara area, Penjaringan, North Jakarta.

The confiscated items consisted of electronics such as slow cooker and rice cooker mini brand soseki, reflection massage tools, cellphones, tablets, spray guns to electronic cigarettes or Relx brand pods. There are also children's toys and make clothes such as jackets, sports pants, to raincoats.

The details, Rp2.7 billion from cellphones and tablets. Then, Rp20 billion in finished and ready-to-wear clothes. Then, Rp12.3 billion in electronics, and Rp5 billion in children's toys.

Zulhas revealed that the illegal imported goods were imported by foreign nationals (WNA). He said these foreigners rented warehouses and distributed these items online.

Furthermore, Zulhas also admitted that he was confused about how these foreign nationals could import these goods into Indonesia. He said that because these imports are legal, there are no accompanying documents and also do not meet the certification of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI).

"Those who import foreigners come here. Don't use SNI, don't use all kinds of things. I'm also confused about how to get here," he said.
