Overturned Tanker Ship In The Philippines Spills 1,40,000 Liters Of Oil, 1 Crew Member Is Missing
JAKARTA - The tanker MT Terra Nova carries 1,40,000 liters of oil inverse fuel in Philippine waters.
A total of 16 of the 17 crew members (ABK) were rescued. While the other 1 is still missing in search.
"There has been an oil spill. Currently, we cannot deliver our resources due to strong winds and high waves," Philippine Transportation Minister Jaime Bautista told a news conference to brief the control situation, Thursday, July 25, quoted from Metro.co.uk.
Based on the information from the crew who were rescued, Balilo said they faced violent sea weather before the tanker MT Terra Nova capsized.
A spokesman for the Philippine coast guard, Armando Balilo, added that in a separate briefing, a 97-meter-long coast guard ship had been deployed to search for the missing crew and overcome the oil spill.
Smaller ships were also deployed in post-incident measures but waited for the weather to improve before heading to the scene.
The coast guard who conducted a survey by air revealed that the oil spill had spread about two nautical miles. Oil is increasingly littering the sea due to strong waves due to strong winds.
"We are racing against time. We will do our best to contain fuel," said Balilo.
