Praising Joe Biden's Speech and Loyalty, Barack Obama: This Country's Sacred Purpose Is Much Bigger

JAKARTA - Former United States President Barack Obama praised President Joe Biden's speech, saying he was always loyal to putting the country before himself.

"The sacred purpose of this country is greater than any of us," he tweeted on social media X, commenting on President Biden's speech, as quoted on July 25.

"Joe Biden has remained true to these words again and again during his time of service to the American people. Thank you, @POTUS," he continued, mentioning the official X account of the President of the United States.

As previously reported, in a speech in the Oval Office of the White House, President Biden revealed his reasons for resigning from the 2024 US Presidential Election contest.

"I respect this office. But I love my country more. It has been the honor of my life to serve as your president. But in defending democracy, that is at stake - and more important than any title. I gain strength and I find joy in working for the American people," President Biden said in a speech in the Oval Office, as reported by CNN.

Starting his speech by talking about his love for the United States, he said it was an honor to serve as president.

"This sacred task of perfecting our union, it's not about me. It's about you, your family, your future. It's about 'We the People'," he said.

Previously, Obama also praised Biden's move to withdraw from the US presidential race. In his social media post, Obama praised Biden for being one of the most influential US Presidents, as well as a good friend and partner for me.

"Sixteen years ago, when I began my search for a vice president, I knew about Joe's extraordinary career in public service. But what I admired more was his character, his deep empathy and hard-won resilience, his fundamental decency and his belief that every person matters," Obama wrote.

"Since taking office, President Biden has demonstrated that character over and over again. He's helped end the pandemic, created millions of jobs, lowered the cost of prescription drugs, passed the first gun safety law in 30 years, made the largest investment in climate change in history, and fought to ensure workers' rights to organize for fair wages and benefits," he explained.

"Internationally, he restored America's standing in the world, revived NATO, and mobilized the world to counter Russian aggression in Ukraine, he praised.

According to Obama, that track record gives President Biden every right to run again and finish the job he started. Joe understands better than anyone what's at stake in this election.

"I also know Joe never backs down from a fight. For him, looking at the political landscape and deciding to pass the baton to a new candidate is certainly one of the most difficult things in his life. However, I know he would not have made this decision unless he was sure it was right for America. This is a testament to Joe Biden's love for his country. A historic example of a true public servant who once again put the interests of the American people above his own, which future generations of leaders would do well to follow," he said.
