The West Sumatra Regional Police Have Examined 79 Witnesses In The Case Of Youth Death In Kuranji
The West Sumatra Regional Police (Polda) together with the Padang City Resort Police (Polresta) examined 79 witnesses in handling the case of the death of a teenager with the initials AM at the Kuranji Bridge, Padang City.
"The investigation of cases is still being carried out by the Padang Police, there are 79 witnesses being examined," said Head of Public Relations of the West Sumatra Police, Kombes Dwi Sulistyawan, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 23.
He said the 79 witnesses came from various backgrounds, with details of 39 members of the West Sumatra Regional Police, 13 members of the Sector Police, and 16 teenagers who were arrested when the police prevented the brawl on the day of the incident, as well as 13 people from public witnesses.
"We have also examined two experts in investigating this case, namely forensic experts and technology information experts (IT)," he said.
Dwi emphasized that until now his party is trying to carry out the legal process transparently, and open space to anyone if they have clear evidence or clues to uncover the case.
"There are already two complaint posts that have been opened to accommodate evidence from outside, namely the West Sumatra Regional Police and Padang Police," he said.
In line with the opening of the complaint post, said Dwi, the police have also opened access to communication services via 08116669007, and 0895607345098 since July 5, 2024.
It's just that, said Dwi, until now no one or any party has come to submit evidence and instructions to the police.
"No one came to submit it (evidence and instructions), even though we have tried to be open and transparent," he said.
Dwi reiterated that the police wanted the case to be quickly resolved through an open investigation.
He said the police believed that the things conveyed to the public must be legal facts from examining witness statements, not assumptions or accusations.
Based on the autopsy results, it was known that the victim suffered six broken ribs which then stabbed the lungs to death.
Until now, the cause of AM's death is still the same, namely the victim died after jumping from the Kuranji Bridge so that it is not secured by the police who are preventing a group of brawlers.
This is according to witness A's statement who was a friend of victim AM, and rode a motorcycle with AM before the incident.
On the other hand, disciplinary violations allegedly committed by West Sumatra Police personnel on the night of the incident have been investigated by the West Sumatra Police Propam.

The number of personnel who have been examined by Propam is 44 personnel, while 13 people are public witnesses.
However, Dwi emphasized that the process against alleged disciplinary violations was different from the incident of investigating AM's death.
An examination related to AM was carried out at the crime scene (TKP) at the Kuranji Bridge, meanwhile, the alleged disciplinary violation related to the incident at the Kuranji Police Office after dozens of brawlers.
