France Promises To Protect Israeli Contingent 24 Hours During The 2024 Olympics

JAKARTA France has ensured that the Israeli contingent will receive strict 24-hour security during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

This was conveyed by the French Interior Minister, Gerald Darmanin, after a left-wing lawmaker refused and called for protests against the participation of the Israeli delegation.

Gerald guaranteed protection to the Israeli contingent at all times during the 2024 Paris Olympics or 52 years after the deaths of 11 Israelis by Palestinian militants at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne also ensured security for the Israeli contingent when attending a meeting with European Union ministers in Brussels on Monday last week.

"I would like to say that on behalf of France, to the Israeli delegation, we welcome to France for this Olympics," he said.

He then said that he would reiterated his statement by telephone when contacting his Israeli counterpart.

The 2024 Paris Olympics will open on July 26, 2024, amid concerns over security over rising geopolitical tensions from the war in Ukraine and Gaza.

The war between Israel and Hamas that destroyed Gaza also provoked anger among the French left wing. However, some critics have accused pro-Palestinian members of anti-semites.

In a pro-Gaza rally on Saturday, July 20, 2024, a lawmaker from France Unbowed's left-wing (LFI) party, Thomas Portes, was recorded in a video saying that Israeli Olympic athletes were not accepted in France.

He emphasized that there should have been protests against their participation in the Olympics.

"We are just a few days away from the international event to be held in Paris, namely the Olympics. I am here to say that no, the Israeli delegation is not accepted in Paris. Israeli athletes will not be accepted at the Paris Olympics," he said.
