Moeldoko: Reconciliation Of Social Conflicts On Haruku Island Is Complete, The Government's Commitment To Realizing Peace
JAKARTA - Presidential Chief of Staff, (KSP) Moeldoko, emphasized that the state's presence in handling social conflicts on Haruku Island, Maluku Province so that intensive government efforts, which involve various related parties, including security forces, religious leaders, and indigenous peoples, have paid off.
This was conveyed on the occasion of the Coordination Meeting for the Closing of Social Conflicts on Haruku Island, Maluku Province at the Bina Graha building, Jakarta, Monday, July 22, which was chaired directly by Moeldoko and attended by a number of related parties, including the Acting Governor of Maluku, Acting Regent of Central Maluku, representatives from the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, Ministry of PUPR, BNPB, Ministry of Social Affairs, Ministry of Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture, TNI/Polri units.
"Social conflict on Haruku Island has now been declared over, we convey that this conflict is not a religious conflict but a border conflict and there has been an agreement with related parties, including land issues that have been agreed to become cultural heritage, regarding sacred stones have also been resolved with local community leaders," said Moeldoko.
Regarding refugees, continued Moeldoko, currently all Kariuw refugees have been able to return to Kariuw Village, no one else has to evacuate in Aboru Village.
"I urge this bad experience not to be repeated, people should also not be easily provoked," he continued.
As is known, social conflict on Haruku Island, Central Maluku occurred at the end of January 2022. This conflict was triggered by clashes between residents of Ori and Kariuw villages. The incident began, from the actions of residents working on the disputed land.
In addition to causing casualties and injuries, these clashes also resulted in the burning of residents' houses, places of worship, and a number of other public facilities. As a result, there were 1,234 people or 330 families who had to evacuate.
The Presidential Staff Office fully oversees the handling of social conflicts on Haruku Island, Central Maluku. In addition to conducting a series of coordination meetings with local governments and ministries/agencies, the Presidential Staff Office also conducts field verification, by visiting conflict locations, and evacuation sites in the Aboru country.
As a next step, the 2013-2015 TNI Commander appealed to related ministries/agencies to help recover, both infrastructure and community empowerment.

To note, there are still 801 people who sleep in the tent so that in a short time the PUPR will complete 207 housing units to be built. Moeldoko also encouraged the relevant ministries/agencies to immediately complete a scheme to assist plantation seeds and livestock for residents affected by the conflict.
"The current situation is much better than a few years ago so it is hoped that the role of local governments can lead the recovery process," he concluded.
