Clashes Occurred In Brick Lane London Related To Bangladesh's Bloody Demonstration

LONDON - Violence between male groups took place in east London, England. Police said the clashes were linked to bloody protests in Bangladesh.

Police intervened to separate the two large groups fighting on the street in the Whitechapel district along with a broader demonstration involving hundreds of people.

Whitechapel, known for its curry shop in Brick Lane, is home to most of the Bangladeshi ethnic population who is the largest ethnic group in the wider area of the Hamlets Tower.

"I realize that events that occur in Bangladesh can have a significant impact on society in the Hamlets Tower, but we cannot allow the power of those feelings to turn into threats, violence and chaos," said Police Chief Inspector James Conway.

A number of cars were damaged and two officers were injured when the police formed a barrier between the opposing masses and protective shields.

footage of riots on social media showed dozens of men throwing projectiles and attacking the gates of buildings in the area. A man was arrested for violating public order.

Dozens of people have died in Bangladesh this week in clashes with security forces following protests that were initially sparked by student anger over a controversial quota of jobs.
