DKI Provincial Government Again Discusses The Implementation Of Paid Roads In The New Regional Regulation Draft

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has again opened the discourse on implementing a paid road system or electronic road pricing (ERP) in Jakarta.

The ERP implementation plan is contained in the preparation of the Draft Regional Regulation (Raperda) on Traffic Need Management which has just been discussed.

This was revealed by the Head of the Data and Information Center of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency who is also the Head of the Raperda Monitoring Team for Traffic Needs Management, Susilo Dewanto.

Susilo revealed, in addition to ERP, this regional regulation meeting will also regulate low emission areas, parking management, as well as age restrictions and the number of ownership of individual motorized vehicles.

"The DKI Provincial Government is currently preparing a regional regulation on traffic needs which will start in May 2024," Susilo said in his statement, quoted on Friday, July 19.

The draft regulations governing ERP and the age restrictions for vehicles have not been proposed as priority programs discussed by the DPRD and DKI Provincial Government.

Now, the Transportation Agency is still conducting public discussions with the Ministry of Transportation as well as experts and practitioners in the transportation sector regarding the preparation of the regional regulation.

"The results expected from this public discussion include component classification, policy system based on all pilot, implementation of policies and recommendations for the form of age limitation strategies and the number of individual vehicles," said Susilo.

Previously, regulations on the implementation of ERP had actually been contained in the draft Raperda for electronic traffic control (PL2SE) in 2023.

The Provincial Government and the DKI DPRD also had an initial discussion regarding the contents in the regional regulation, but the discussion of articles per article has not been carried out.

However, this has drawn resistance from the public, especially ojol drivers who had held a demonstration at the DKI City Hall. They demanded that the DKI Provincial Government revoke the ERP Raperda.

Until finally, the regional regulation that had been submitted to the DPRD was returned for revision and there has been no follow-up to date.
