Mason Greenwood Rejected At Marseille
JAKARTA - Marseille has reached an agreement with Manchester United regarding Mason Greenwood's transfer.
The French Ligue 1 club agreed to pay a dowry of 27 million euros plus 3.2 million euros plus a sales clause of 50 percent.
One step more for both parties to complete the transfer. However, the problem is that Greenwood is not accepted by Marseille supporters.
A campaign with the hashtag #GreenwoodNotWelcome has been inflamed. Supporters asked Marseille officials to stop the transfer process because Greenwood's presence is considered to be able to damage the club's image.
In fact, the Mayor of Marseilee, Benoit Payan, also opposed the move. He said he would lobby Marseille's president, Pablo Longoria, to cancel the deal.

"I don't want my club to be covered in shame. It's unacceptable," Benoit Payan told RMC.
However, Marseille's new manager, Roberto De Zerbi, insists he will defend Greenwood if the player is brought in.
"Greenwood hasn't been recruited yet, so there's not much to say. He's a champion, an international level player."
"I don't know what happened, I don't concentrate on personal life. When a player joins the club, I consider him my son."
"In fact, if I can attract his attention personally, I will defend him in public. My players are like my children," said De Zerbi.
Marseille's refusal could not be separated from the case of the 22-year-old off the pitch.
Greenwood was reportedly suspended by Manchester United in January 2022 before being charged nine months later for attempted rape, assault, and control and coercion against a woman.
The midfielder then denied the allegations. Finally, in February 2023 all these criminal charges were dropped.
However, Greenwood's career at Manchester United is already gloomy. He was dropped from the first team which was eventually loaned out at Getafe in the 2023/2024 season.
Together with Getafe, Greenwood tried to restore his good name with a slick appearance. He appeared in 33 games and scored eight goals.
The return of Greenwood's slick performance has made his name the target of many major European clubs in the summer transfer market. However, only Marseille was finally serious about negotiating.
