Panji Gumilang Free From Indramayu Prison

InDRAMAYU - Panji Gumilang, convicted of blasphemy cases as well as Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes) leaders, was declared free from the Class IIB Penitentiary (Lapas) Indramayu, West Java.

"Bebas pada tanggal 17 Juli 2024 atau tadi pagi," kata Kepala Divisi Pemasyarakatan Kementerian Hukum dan HAM Jawa Barat Robianto dilansir ANTARA, Rabu, 17 Juli.

Robianto said Panji Gumilang was free after serving a 1-year prison sentence at the Indramayu Prison. Thus, the head of the Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School does not need to do mandatory reporting.

"Panji Gumilang is pure free, so the person concerned does not need to do mandatory reporting," he said.

During his sentence at the Indramayu Prison, he said, Panji Gumilang had also received 15 days remission in Lebaran 2024.

"He got 15 days of Eid al-Fitr remission," he said.

Previously, the sentence of 1 year in prison in the blasphemy case was handed down to Panji Gumilang. The verdict was read out at the verdict hearing at the Indramayu District Court on March 20, 2024.

Chief Judge Yogi Dulhadi in his ruling stated that the defendant was proven to have violated Article 156a letter a of the Criminal Code in conjunction with the Law on Blasphemy of Religion.

"The 1 year prison sentence was handed down to the defendant Abdussalam Panji Gumilang. The period of detention that the defendant had served was determined to be deducted entirely from the sentence imposed," said Yogi.

The verdict handed down by the panel of judges was lighter than the demands of the public prosecutor (JPU), who demanded that Panji Gumilah be sentenced to a sentence of 1 year and 6 months.

The verdict was then reduced during the detention period during the judicial process.
