Perbasi Confident Indonesia U-18 Qualifies FIBA Asia Cup U-18 2024

JAKARTA The Central Board of the Indonesian Basketball Association (PP Perbasi) is confident that the Indonesian U-18 Men's Basketball National Team can get a ticket to the 2024 FIBA Asia Cup U-18.

The team manager, Murni Setionegoro, said that the team that was leaving had provisions to compete in the event so that there would be a chance to get a ticket to qualify.

"We are very confident to leave. So, what we hope is that until today everyone will be healthy so that these 12 athletes will go and compete and qualify," he said.

This confidence reflects the achievements of the previous young basketball team at the 2024 ASEAN School Games (ASG). At that time, Indonesia successfully won a gold medal.

In the top party, Indonesia successfully defeated the Philippines which is a country with a very good basketball tradition. It was Indonesia's first gold basketball in the history of ASG.

Murni hopes that the departing players will have a mental fight to win while on the field. You see, technically they have been matured by the coach.

"In ASG, we also participated and won gold medals. So, hopefully we can qualify so that in September 2024 we can participate in FIBA Asia in Jordan," he said.

A total of 12 players were dispatched to the 2024 U-18 SEABA. These names are the result of the selection conducted by Perbasi since April 2024.

Indonesia will later fight Thailand, the Philippines and Malaysia. These four countries will win a ticket to the FIBA Asian Cup U-18 which will take place in Amman, Jordan, on September 2-9, 2024.

Thailand will be Indonesia's first opponent in the U-18 SEABA. Following that, the Garuda Muda squad against Malaysia and the Philippines.
