Republican Convention, Trump Continues To Advance To Return To The White House
JAKARTA - Donald Trump strengthened his grip on the Republican Party at this week's Republican convention, after survivors of assassination attempts and going through many legal complexities on the way to the presidential candidacy of the party.
In a four-day event that began on Monday, July 15, the former president of the United States (US) will announce his choice as vice presidential candidates, after naming the names of vice presidential candidates from Ohio, US Senator J.D. Vance, Florida US Senator Marco Rubio, and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, all of whom will speak at the convention.
Despite the event in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, it will be a festive event to officially nominate Trump, this is happening at a tense time in US history ahead of the election's rematch on November 5, 2024 between President Joe Biden (81) and Trump (78).
Will party leaders try to defuse emotions among Republicans? Or will they use this opportunity to accuse the Democratic Party of vilifying Trump as a threat to democracy and making him the target of political violence?
"This is an opportunity to unite the whole country, even the whole world. His speech will be very different, much different from two days ago," Trump told the Washington Examiner.
Biden also in a televised address from the White House on Sunday, said: "There is no place in America for this kind of violence, for any violence. Point. No exceptions. We cannot allow this violence to become normal."
