2024 Olympic Badminton Draw: Fajar/Rian Avoided From Groups With The Most Opponents

JAKARTA The men's doubles draw for the 2024 Paris Olympics badminton (sports) places Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto in Group C.

Fajar/Rian, who is the former world number one, will certainly avoid entering a group of five couples after the drawing results are completed on Monday, July 15, 2024.

Group C is inhabited by former world number one from India, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty, German representative Mark Lamsfuss/Marvin Seidel, and host pair Ronal Labar/Lucas Corvee.

If you look at potential opponents, Fajar/Rian's chance to reach the quarter-finals is wide open. Their toughest opponent is of course only the Satwiksairaj/Chirag pair.

On paper, Fajar/Rian have met the couple five times. However, their winning record is still inferior, namely 2-3.

As for Fajar/Rian, they have met four times with the German pair. They dominated with a 3-1 win-loss record, all of which won in their three latest clashes.

Fajar/Rian are also favored against Ronan/Lucas. In their only competitive clash in 2021, Fajar/Rian won easily two straight games.

The draw for badminton has actually been carried out on Friday, July 12, 2024, along with four other sectors. However, BWF decided to postpone it due to the escape of Ronan/Lucas.

At first, Ronan/Lucas did not get a ticket to the 2024 Olympics. However, the error in calculating BWF's points made them take the appeal route to the Sports Arbitration Court (CAS) and was granted.

The CAS decision made France for the first time in history to have two men's doubles pairs performing at the Olympics. In addition, this is the first time the men's doubles has been followed by 17 couples.

The impact of the problem was that during the preliminary round, there was one group that was confirmed to have five partners. Luckily Fajar/Rian avoided being included in the group.
