The DPR's Special Committee For Angket Party Will Encourage The Separation Of Hajj Affairs With The Ministry Of Religion

JAKARTA - The House of Representatives' Special Committee (Pansus) will encourage the separation of hajj affairs with the Ministry of Religion after any indication of violations of the 2024 Hajj implementation.

This was said by a member of Commission VIII of the DPR, Wisnu Wijaya, regarding the special committee target which will start a working period to investigate the 2024 hajj issue.

"The target of this picket committee, first, is to investigate whether there are allegations of malpractice that lead to criminal acts of corruption that occur in the process of organizing the hajj," said Wisnu to reporters, Monday, July 15.

"If it is proven, then the DPR will not hesitate to follow up in collaboration with the authorities," he continued.

Second, continued Wisnu, encouraging improvement in the quality of hajj services from all aspects. Among them are the sustainability of Hajj finance, hajj diplomacy, and Hajj management.

"In fact, it is possible that the momentum of this Hajj budget will further encourage the urgency to separate Hajj affairs from the Ministry of Religion," said Wisnu.

"Due to considering the complexity of the issues being handled, a position at the level of the Ministry is needed which is directly responsible to the President who specifically handles this hajj matter," he added.

Wisnu assessed that the Special Committee also needs to consider conducting an investigation into Saudi Arabia. However, according to him, to conduct an investigation into Saudi Arabia, it will require coordination with many parties, one of which is the Saudi Arabian authority.

"We consider that this option should be considered, especially to investigate the portfolio and performance of the syarikats or vendors who have been appointed by the Ministry of Religion during the implementation of the hajj, whether their selection is in accordance with specifications and whether they have carried out services in accordance with the agreement," he said.

"Hopefully, the results of the investigation can be used as a reference and consideration material in the future so that our government can be more careful in choosing adequate unions or vendors," concluded Wisnu.
