Receiving The Visit Of The Great Imam Of Al Azhar Egypt, Puan Maharani: She Supports Women's Leadership

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives Puan Maharani received a visit from Grand Syekh or the Grand Imam of Al Azhar Egypt, Ahmad Ahmed Al Tayeb at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Thursday, July 11. Puan said, Ahmed Al Tayeb supports women's leadership. Puan revealed that the meeting with Ahmed Al Tayeb was the second time after a meeting in Egypt in 2018 when she served as Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture. "Earlier he said that he wanted to meet the chairman of the DPR who happened to be his grandson Bung Karno, after this he would also meet Megawati's mother, the 5th president who is also the daughter of the founder of Bung Karno," said Puan at a press conference, Thursday, July 11. "He also supports women's leadership without discriminating between women and men to be able to occupy all positions, also in politics," he added. The chairman of the PDIP DPP said that the arrival of the Grand Imam Al Azhar Egypt to Indonesia to strengthen relations between the two countries. Moreover, said Puan, Egypt was the first Middle Eastern country to support Indonesia's independence. "He said that currently the relationship between Egypt and Indonesia has been running for 77 years, and he came here because he really wanted to strengthen relations between Indonesia and Egypt, then also the first Arabic country to support Indonesia's independence at that time," said Puan.

During the meeting, the Grand Imam also said that Al Azhar supported the moderation of Islam, Islam which wasafiah, Islam which was rahmatan lil alamin. The high priest also supported the independence of Palestine and hoped that Indonesia would help the struggle of the Palestinian people. "Also how to support the independence of Palestine and hope that what Indonesia is fighting for against Palestinian independence remains consistent that it must be together until the Palestinians are independent," added Puan, also hopes that what happened in Gaza can be dismissed and open access to humanitarian aid as widely as possible. "And hope that there will be peace with diplomacy or dialogue," he said.
