Russian Attack On Ukrainian Odesa Kills 2 People To Damage Port

JAKARTA - Russia launched 20 drones and five missiles into Ukraine, killing two people in the Black Sea region of Odesa. The attack also damaged port infrastructure and hit energy facilities.

A truck driver and security guard were killed in the southern region of Odesa in a missile attack, which damaged port warehouses, trucks and civilian ships, the regional governor by goalkeeper said.

The Odesa region is the export hub of the Ukrainian Black Sea that has revived without Russian approval after Moscow withdrew from a UN-brokered agreement last summer that allowed Kyiv to export food during the war with Russia.

Port facilities in the region are often attacked by long-range attacks by Moscow. Russia, which launched a massive invasion in February 2022, has repeatedly denied targeting civilians or civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.

Separately, drone attacks damaged energy facilities in the northwestern region of Rivne, said the national network operator. The fires that occurred only occurred in certain locations and no casualties were reported, said Governor Oleksandr Koval.

The attack caused a temporary power outage in the region but did not require any changes to the scheduled power outages, the Ukrenergo network operator said.

Ukraine was forced to carry out routine power outages for hours amid a shortage of supplies due to significant damage to power facilities since March caused by Russian airstrikes.
