Chery Announces Sales Of Omoda 5 In Italy And Focuses On Expanding Markets In Europe

Chery has officially expanded its market in Europe, Italy to be precise with the announcement of the sales of Omoda 5. Not only that, this manufacturer from China is also considering expanding production capacity and sales on the blue continent.

Reporting from Reuters, Monday, July 8, the Omoda 5 is sold at prices ranging from 27,900 euros (Rp490.7 million) and is called Chery to continue to grow in this region and will enter more than 60 new global markets in the next three years.

Although it must be faced with the challenge of Chinese EV rates determined by the European Union (EU), this does not stop Chery from expanding. Please note, the EV from Chery has been set to be subject to an additional 20.8 percent fee by the EU.

Meanwhile, on the one hand, as trade tensions with the EU increase, bringing production capacity to Europe will help Chery increase sales and offset the impact of tariffs in Europe.

In Italy, the EV version of Omoda 5 will be available in September. Then, later this year Chery will also offer a larger Jaecool 7 SUV in Italy in gasoline and then plug-in hybrid.

By the end of 2025, Chery is planning three SUV models each for the Omoda and Jaecoo brands with a mixture of fuel to serve various European regions.

Earlier in April, a Chinese-based manufacturer announced the acquisition of its former Nissan factory in Barcelona, Spain as its first assembly facility in Europe. This is the result of a joint venture with local company EV Motors.

The manufacturer said the plant would become one of the export centers for the entire world by producing 150,000 vehicles per year in 2029.

In the construction of this factory, Chery and EV Motors invested 400 million euros and will employ up to 1,250 workers. The company from China plans to start production by the end of next summer and will take the initiative to employ 150 former Nissan workers.

This facility will partly be handed over to makers of Spanish electric motorcycle Silence and local group QEV and EV Motors, which plan to turn it into an electric vehicle hub.

EV Motors itself acquired the company's full control of the hub in March, and has played an important role in talks with Chery.

The manufacturer from the bamboo curtain country plans to assemble the Omoda branded model in Spain, such as Omoda 5 and Jaecool 7 in the matador country.
