Emma Raducanu's Bitter End At Wimbledon 2024
JAKARTA - Emma Raducanu had to be eliminated in the round of 16 of Wimbledon's 2024 women's singles. She lost against Lulu Sun with a score of 2-6, 7-5, and 2-6 on Sunday, July 7, 2024.
However, what was astonishing was not the defeat, but the withdrawal from mixed doubles with Andy Murray the day before their first match or to be precise on Friday, July 5, 2024.
Raducanu said his decision to resign was right because he felt something was wrong with his fitness.
When he woke up from sleep, he already felt his right wrist stiff. Therefore, he decided to withdraw from the mixed doubles and focus on a single match.
"I just woke up with a slightly stiff wrist. With a ball that is quite heavy on the grass, it is something I have to control. I just have to prioritize my skin and body."
"I don't think it was a mistake because I feel fine. It was the right decision."
"I support that decision. It was a difficult decision because it was something I always wanted to do," said Raducanu.

Raducanu is clearly disappointed that he cannot have a relationship with Andy Murray. In fact, this moment was his dream.
Moreover, the 37-year-old senior named Wimbledon 2024 as the last before retiring. He is willing to step down from the singles and focus on mixed doubles and the men's doubles with his brother, Jamie Murray.
"Andy is clearly disappointed that this is his last game. Really a champion."
"I think hopefully he can play at the 2024 Paris Olympics and say goodbye again there," said Raducanu.
The problem is, Raducanu's withdrawal in the mixed doubles numbers makes a split among tennis.
Andy Murray's mother,LAR Murray, criticized Raducanu's decision. She shared a post on her personal Instagram citing Serena Williams, Andy Murray's doubles partner at Wimbledon 2019.
"Playing mixed doubles on your side is one of the most important things in my life," Serena Williams said.
"Not sure anyone understands how it has been lately. Quite sure that the scheduling (the fourth game of Field 1 with a single match the following day) will play a major role in any decision-making," Murray continued, accompanying Serena Williams' quote.
Raducanu also responded coldly. He understands that his decision has disappointed many people, but 21-year-old tennis player insists that it is for the good of his body.
"I haven't seen your reaction. I'm sure he's not serious."
"I think in every decision, the public has the right to express their opinion. Of course, there is little doubt in the decision."
"I don't think I'm going to do it any other way. I think in this sport, especially as an individual, you have to make your own decisions and prioritize yourself."
"Especially with my history (injury), I just have to put myself first," said Raducanu.
Meanwhile, Andy Murray briefly presented his disappointment. However, he understands Raducanu's decision.
Andy Murray knows what it's like to play after injury. As is well known, Raducanu was seriously injured so he had to miss throughout 2023.
"It was a tough game. I gave my best, I struggled very hard. I've had back injuries since Queen's Club Championship."
"I felt it during the game. I think especially on service, it affected me a little bit."
"I just need to take the lessons I can from him, watch him come back, improve him, and keep going."
"Six months ago when I started training after surgery, I would sign a contract for the fourth round of Wimbledon 2024. Of course I was disappointed. Of course I wanted more."
"I think things happen for a reason. It just ignites the fire and makes me even more hungry," said Andy Murray.
