Kaspersky Experts Find Botnet Sales On Dark Web, Prices Starting From IDR 1.6 Million

JAKARTA - Expert Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence analyzes the sale of botnets on the dark web and Telegram, and finds that attackers can obtain ready-to-use solutions starting from 99 US dollars (Rp1.6 million).

Botnet is a network of devices infected with malware, ranging from tools to sophisticated industrial internet devices used to regulate automatic mass attacks such as DDoS.

In addition to one purchase, botnets can be rented or obtained as leaked source codes at a symbolic price. In some cases, the development of botnets is specifically also available.

Kaspersky says that cybercriminals usually sell them to other cybercriminals in the shadow market, with botnet prices dependent on quality, this year the lowest offering starts at 99 US dollars (Rp1.6 million) and the highest reaches 10,000 US dollars (Rp162 million).

Not only sold, it turns out that botnets are also available for rent, with prices ranging from 30 US dollars (Rp 488 thousand) to US$4.800 (Rp78 million) per month.

"The potential income from attacks that use botnets for rent or sale can exceed the related costs," said Alisa Kulishenko, security analyst at Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence.

Since early 2024, Kaspersky experts have observed more than 20 botnet offerings for rent or sale on dark web forums and Telegram channels.
