Quoting The Development Of Electric Car Sales In China, Here's The Answer

JAKARTA - China's automotive industry is increasingly excited, especially in the electric car segment with the dominance of local players. Recent reports show that the best-selling car in China is currently dominated by plug-in hybrid (PHEV) electric vehicles and electric vehicles (BEVs).

According to EV Volumes data, reported by InsideEVs, July 8, during the first five months of this year (January-May), more than 3.3 million new EV and PHEV cars were registered in China, an increase of about 32 percent compared to last year. This figure represents about 41 percent of the country's total car market.

In detail, of this total, pure electric vehicles (BEVs) reached around 2.07 million units or had a market share of 26 percent, while PHEVs were around 1.30 million units with a market share of 15 percent.

As a reference, in 2023, more than 8 million EVs and new PHEVs are registered in China, an increase of 46 percent compared to 2022, representing about 37 percent of the total market volume (compared to 30 percent in 2022, 15 percent in 2021, and 6.3 percent in 2020).

Some of the best-selling models in May 2024 alone included the BYD Song family (55,552 units), BYD Qin Plus (48,668 units), Tesla Model Y (39,985 units), and BYD Seagull (33,544 units). Interestingly, the first gasoline car to enter the top 10 list was Nissan Sylphy with sales of 31,600 units.

Meanwhile, for the January-May 2024 period, BYD's dominance was increasingly visible when he saw the top 10 list. with the family of BYD Song and BYD Qin Plus firmly ranked 1 and 2, followed by Tesla Model Y who tried to maintain its position as the best-selling electric car.
