Shin Tae-yong's Response Rumored To Be South Korean Coach

JAKARTA - The coach of the Indonesian national team, Shin Tae-yong, responded to the issue that he was offered to be the coach of the South Korean national team. The coach is outspoken that he did not accept the offers reported.

This was revealed by STY when he attended the launching of Shin Tae Yong Soccer Park in South Korea, Saturday (6/7).

"If I was called (to handle the South Korean national team), I would definitely think about how to form a Korean national team and so on. But I didn't get a call at all," said Shin Tae-yong, quoted from KBS on Sunday, July 7.

After explaining the real situation, the coach reviewed the moment he brought the U-23 Indonesian national team to beat South Korea U-23 in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup quarter-finals.

"My mood wasn't good (at that moment), it was a bit chaotic, so I gave applause to the Korean coaching staff and Korean players. Actually it was a bit difficult (against your own country)," recalled the coach.

Shin Tae-yong began contracting as coach of the Indonesian national team on December 28, 2019. At that time Shin was asked to handle three teams at once, categories U-20, U-23, and seniors.

At that time Shin was contracted with a duration of four years, from December 28, 2023. In mid-2023, when Erick was the leader of PSSI, Shin was offered a new contract.

The former South Korean coach at the 2018 World Cup was offered a contract extension for six months, namely until June 28, 2024. During that period Shin was asked to meet two targets.

The first target, qualifying from the 2023 Asian Cup group stage in Qatar. Second, qualifying from the group stage of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup. Not only did Indonesia advance until the semifinals.

Once the target is achieved, Erick immediately offers a new contract. In a dinner in Qatar, the two agreed to cooperate until June 28, 2027.
