Culverts Can't Accommodate Rainwater, Dozens Of Houses Are Submerged By Floods In Bengkulu

JAKARTA - Dozens of houses in a number of sub-districts in Bengkulu City were flooded. This was caused by heavy rains that occurred from Friday, July 5 to Saturday in the area. One of the RT heads, namely the Head of the RT-07 Kelurahan Tanah Patah, Bengkulu City Rahman in Bengkulu Saturday said, currently the water reached the waist height of an adult. "The flood began to occur on Friday night as a limited to the ankle, and on Saturday at 04.00 WIB the water began to rise again as an adult calf," he said, quoting Antara. He explained that the result of the rising water caused a number of residents' belongings to be immediately evacuated to a higher place so as not to be flooded and damaged. Rahman said further, for Tanah Patah Village as many as 50 heads of families (KK) who were flooded. The area on Jalan Gunung Bungkuk Ratu Agung District, he said, is indeed a flood-prone area every time it rains with moderate to heavy intensity and with long duration. He explained that one of them was caused by the condition of the culvers or water channel in the area was unable to accommodate a large volume of water, thus overflowing and causing a number of houses to be flooded. "Currently, residents whose houses have been flooded have fled to other residents' homes that are safe from floodwater," he said.

Meanwhile, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Fatmawati Soekarno Bengkulu Meteorological Station explained that for the next few days a number of areas in Bengkulu Province have the potential for light to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds of short duration. Then for areas that have the potential for heavy rain, namely Bengkulu City, Mukomuko Regency, North Bengkulu Regency, Lebong Regency, Rejang Lebong Regency. Then Kepahiang Regency, Central Bengkulu Regency, Seluma Regency, South Bengkulu Regency, and Kaur Regency.
