Ministry Of Transportation Calls International Airport Determination Dynamic
JAKARTA - Secretary-General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Sigit Hani Hadiyanto said that the determination of international airports is dynamic. This means that it can increase or decrease depending on developments.
"Policy (policy) now from 34 airports to 17 airports, we will also see the development later because this is dynamic in nature," said Sigit, quoted from ANTARA, Tuesday, July 2.
Sigit said this was in response to the South Kalimantan Provincial Government (Pemprov Kalsel) which is currently struggling to restore international status at Syamsudin Noor Airport Banjarmasin in Banjarbaru.
According to Sigit, currently there are 17 international airports designated from the previous 34 airports.
However, these airports will continue to be evaluated.
"As we said earlier, the Ministry of Transportation continues to conduct studies, reviews, and reviews of the policies that are now being taken," said Sigit.
He said, if there is progress in the future, then it will be a study material to re-determine whether the airport status can become international or not.
"Again, we provide a note that whether it is international or not for certain flight servants can still be used, such as for Hajj and Umrah flights," said Sigit.
Previously, the Provincial Government of South Kalimantan (Pemprov Kalsel) struggled to restore international status at Syamsudin Noor Airport Banjarmasin in Banjarbaru.
Daily Executive (Plh) Head of the South Kalimantan Provincial Transportation Service Agung Rahmadi said his party was trying to ask the Ministry of Transportation so that Syamsudin Noor Airport could return to serve international routes or serve Umrah pilgrims.
"We are trying according to the direction of the Regional Secretary, at least there is direct service, especially for Umrah trips," said Agung.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Adita Irawati said 17 international airports had been designated to encourage the strengthening of the national aviation business after the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The Ministry of Transportation has issued Ministerial Decree Number 31/2024 (KM 31/2004) concerning the Determination of International Airports on April 2, 2024. This KM has designated 17 airports in Indonesia with international airport status, from the original 34 international airports," said Adita.

Adita conveyed that the purpose of the determination was to be able to encourage the national aviation sector, which had slumped during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision has also been discussed with relevant ministries and institutions under the coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment.
