BYD Prints Record Sales Of 340 Thousand Environmentally Friendly Car Units In June 2024
JAKARTA - In the midst of the large number of automotive manufacturers experiencing a decline in demand, especially the electrification vehicle segment, BYD actually reported significant sales achievements globally.
In June, this manufacturer booked the delivery of 340,211 units of environmentally friendly vehicles to customers including from 15,000 BYD sub-brands.
Launching InsideEVs, July 2, the total number of BYD sales in June reached 35 percent more than last year. Then, the pure electric vehicle (EV) segment contributed as many as 145,179 units or less than in May or an increase of 13 percent compared to last year in the same period.
The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicle segment contributed a major contribution to sales in May. BYD reported as many as 195,032 PHEV cars were sold or 58 percent higher than last year.
Of this number, BYD also managed to collect sales of 26,995 units of electrified vehicles abroad (up 156 percent) or playing a role of almost 8 percent of the total. Then, the manufacturer, which was founded in 2003, also managed to sell 1,447 commercial electric vehicles (EV).

In the second quarter of this year, BYD recorded record sales of environmentally friendly vehicles with up to 982,747 units or 40 percent more than last year.
Of this number, the manufacturer managed to contribute 426,039 EV units, an increase of 21 percent. However, this number still cannot beat rival brands such as Tesla with 438,019 units in the April to June period, although it has decreased.
Then, PHEV vehicle sales managed to collect 556,708 units, an increase of up to 60 percent. So far, BYD has sold more than 1.6 million environmentally friendly electrification vehicles.
In the six-month period this year, the EV segment contributed 726,153 units, an increase of 18 percent compared to last year. PHEV sales are also very strong with 880,992 units, an increase of 40 percent.
The model in the Song series is still consistently the best-selling one last May with a sales book of up to 70,219 units, up 66 percent. This was followed by Qin with 68,450 units (up 55 percent), Yuan with a total of 36,222 units, and Seagull 36,066 units.
In 2024, it is estimated that this sale will be much higher than in 2023. The company intends to achieve an average growth rate of above 20%.
As an illustration, in 2023, BYD will receive sales of more than 3 million plug-in vehicles with passengers or 62 percent more than 2022.
