More Than 307 Thousand VW Vehicle Units Have Been Recalled In North America Due To The Airbag System
JAKARTA - Volkswagen (VW) announced recall of more than 307,000 vehicles in North America. The trigger for the recall was due to a potential cable error that could disable the airbag of the passengers ahead.
Reuters reported on Thursday, June 27, this recall includes Atlas models for 2021-2024 and Atlas Cross Sport 2020-2024 in the United States as many as 271,000 units in the United States (US) and Canada totaling 36,000 in the same vehicle.
It is reported that the passenger detection system (PODS) in this vehicle has the potential to experience errors in cables that increase the risk of injury or death when an accident occurs on the highway.
The German manufacturer has also received 1,730 guarantee claims for PODS spare parts and told vehicle owners to be careful in driving their cars.
VW will notify all affected vehicle owners starting August 16 while preparing spare parts so that this problem can be resolved properly.
"Once parts are ready, Volkswagen dealers will replace the PODS sensor base and a series of cables with better parts for free," Volkswagen wrote.

This is also the second recall of VW with the problem in the same model. In March last year, as many as 143,000 Atlas 2018-2021 model units and Atlas Cross Sport 2020 experienced the same thing.
In addition, this is the umpteenth time the brand has done this in 2024. US safety authorities also started a request for a recall of VW cars in the US of 51,500 units last May. The start of the recall program was due to concerns over open vehicle doors while driving.
The agency said that it had received at least 12 complaints regarding the ID.4 production model between 2021 and 2023.
Some vehicle owners report that the vehicle's doors are open at any time while driving without being detected naturally. Although there are no reports of casualties or injuries, of course this could endanger the lives of car owners or other road users.
