BMW Becomes The First Manufacturer To Accept Approval Of ADAS Level 2 And Level 3 Systems In One Vehicle

JAKARTA - BMW is now the first in the world to receive approval for a combination of the ADAS level 2 system or BMW Highway Assistant and level 3 in the BMW Personal Pilot L3 on the same vehicle, namely Series-7.

This means that this luxury sedan is a milestone in the field of autonomous driving by offering unique opportunities to enjoy the benefits of both systems on the same car.

"We set new standards in the automotive industry by combining these two technologies into a new BMW Series-7," said Senior Vice President Driving Experience BMW Group Dr. Mihiar Ayoubi, quoted from the brand's official website, Thursday, June 27.

BMW Highway Assistant can significantly improve comfort over long-distance travel and has autonomous driving capability at a speed of 130 km/hour.

This system has additional functions such as Steering and Lane Control Assistant which can be used on highways with structurally separated traffic lanes.

When this feature is activated, the driver can remove his hands from the wheel longer and position it comfortably. However, the driver needs to pay attention to his future views and can take over the wheel as desired.

In addition, BMW Series-7 also has Active Lane Change Assistant functioning in maneuvering overtaking and adjusting vehicle speeds as desired. Plus, drivers can start changing lanes suggested by the system by simply looking into the rear rearview mirror to confirm it.

Meanwhile, the ADAS level 3 feature or BMW Personal Pilot L3 can make drivers get their hands off the steering wheel and can take their eyes off the road for some time.

This feature offers a new driving experience that allows the car to run autonomously at a speed of 60 km/h and diverts its view from the road. This system can work in certain situations, for example in toll road traffic conditions.

This even allows drivers to carry out other activities in the car, such as making phone calls, reading, writing messages, working or streaming videos. However, drivers should always be prepared to take control within a few seconds when asked by the car, for example when there are road repairs.

These two systems will be available as optional and available exclusively in Germany for 6,000 euros (IDR 105.2 million). BMW Series-7 owners who have been equipped with the BMW Personal Pilot L3 can add the BMW Highway Assistant function for free starting August 24.
