Junior High School Student Dies, West Sumatra Police Chief Admits Its Members Handled The Perpetrators Of Brawl In Kuranji

West Sumatra Police Chief (West Sumatra), Inspector General Suharyono admitted that his members had made a procedural error when 18 teenagers suspected of being involved in the brawl were taken to the Kuranji Police Headquarters. A total of 45 personnel were also questioned by Bidpropam.

"There was an incorrect procedure, so our Propam went down and examined 45 members," said Suharyano when meeting the demonstrators in front of the West Sumatra Police Headquarters, Wednesday, June 26 evening.

Of the 45 members examined, continued Suharyono, seven of them were Padang Police personnel. The rest are personnel from the Ditsamapta Polda West Sumatra.

"We examined 45 members, seven from the Padang Police, the rest from Sabhara Polda West Sumatra. We investigated at the West Sumatra Police Propam related to the incident at the Kuranji Police Headquarters regarding the examination of 18 brawlers," he said.

Suharyano emphasized that the actions of members at the location of the brawl prevention or on the bridge were in accordance with procedures.

"There are those at the Kuranji Police Headquarters who exceed the authority of the members concerned. There are four demands, the information we have and are investigating so that 45 of our members are examined by the Regional Police Propam," he said.

"If the examination is proven guilty, we will take firm action. We will inform the public about the punishment," he continued.

Previously, the West Sumatra Police together with the Indonesian National Police Commission (Kompolnas) reconstructed an incident related to the death of a junior high school student named Afif Maulana in Kuranji, Padang, local province.

The crime scene was led directly by the West Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Suharyono witnessed directly by the Daily Chairman of Kompolnas Benny Jozua Mamoto on the Kuranji bridge, Bypass Kilometer 9 Street on Thursday 27 June at around 03.00 WIB.
