2024 Copa America: Colombia Beat Paraguay 2-1

JAKARTA Colombia opened their campaign at the 2024 Copa America by securing three points against Paraguay.

Team star James Rodriguez shined as the mastermind of the 2-1 win in the opening match of Group D which took place at the NRG Stadium, Houston, Texas, United States, Tuesday, June 25 morning WIB.

The former Real Madrid player contributed both assists for Colombia's goals scored by Daniel Munoz and Jefferson Lerma in the first half, respectively.

Meanwhile, one goal from Paraguay was netted in the second half by Julio Enciso. He thinned Colombia's win thanks to continuing his partner Ramon Sosa's pass.

This result saw Colombia, a team that won the Copa America in 2001, extend their unbeaten record to 24 matches.

Colombia last lost 0-1 against Argentina in early February 2022. Since then they have won 19 times and drew five times.

The result against Paraguay made Colombia temporarily occupy the top position of the group standings. Their position can be taken over by Brazil or Costa Rica who plays afterwards.

Colombia will next meet with Costa Rica on Saturday, June 29, following after that against Brazil in the group's final match on Wednesday, July 3.
