Minister Of Home Affairs: Inauguration Of The Elected Regional Head At The Earliest December 2024 Or January 2025

JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian said the inauguration of the elected regional head was the fastest in December 2024 or January 2025.

The implementation of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Election falls on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

"So maybe December is over. January is the inauguration, the fastest is December or January," Tito said at the Office of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Jakarta, Monday, June 24, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to him, the process of inaugurating the regional head is very dependent on when the regional election process will be completed. If all areas are simultaneously able to complete the process in November.

However, he explained that the process of counting votes and problems at the KPU level took almost a month. Therefore, Tito denied that the process could be completed in December, so that the inauguration process would be at the earliest in December or January.

He also did not rule out the possibility of filing a case for the General Election Result Dispute (PHPU) for the 2024 Pilkada at the Constitutional Court (MK).

"We also do not rule out the possibility, because there is a right to file a lawsuit at the Constitutional Court. Some can be fast, it can also be slow," he explained.

The reason is, he reflected on the election experience in South Kalimantan which spent 8 months and Yalimo Regency, Papua, the Mountains whose regional elections were completed for about 1 year and 3 months due to repetition from scratch.

Tito also hopes that the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Election process will not be completed too long, so that the elected regional head can be sworn in immediately.

"So it doesn't have to be the same time, but we hope that hopefully there won't be many disputes, hopefully," said Tito.

"So that the inauguration will be fast and not far from the inauguration of the elected president," he continued.

Previously, Thursday (2/5), Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian emphasized that the schedule for the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada would most likely not change the date, which would remain on November 27, 2024.

Nevertheless, Tito said that the discourse to accelerate the inauguration of elected regional heads was not too far away from the inauguration of the elected president and vice president on October 20 is still open.

"I emphasize that the regional election has not changed its date, namely on November 27, 2024. However, there is indeed an opinion to talk about only one problem, namely the simultaneous inauguration. But, I don't think that has much effect because the important thing is that the D-days are very important and we have agreed on November 27, "added Tito when met at the General Elections Commission Building, Thursday.

Although the election schedule remains on November 27, 2024, according to the former National Police Chief, there is indeed a discourse for its implementation to be accelerated.

The consideration is so that the inauguration of the elected regional head is not far from the inauguration of the elected president and vice president which is scheduled for October 20, 2024.

If the regional elections are still held on November 27, he said, if there is a dispute over the results, the inauguration could be delayed by two to three months.

This means that from January to February 2025 there will be the inauguration of a new elected regional head. Thus, there is a long distance with the inauguration of the president and vice president.

"In fact, the simultaneous Pilkada philosophy is harmonization, synchronization of central, provincial, district and city programs for five years," he said.

With this argument, that's why there has been a discourse for the regional elections to advance to September. Because, if the regional elections are held in September, in December the dispute over the election results has been resolved.

As a result, in January, most new regional heads could be sworn in. This means that the inauguration of the regional head is also not too far away from the inauguration of the elected president.

"However, after looking at the existing dynamics, we stick to the initial concept, namely November 27. I don't think there is a revised plan (Law Number 10 of 2016 concerning Pilkada). There hasn't been any change on the date yet," he concluded.
