MKD DPR Says Bamsoet Violated Code Of Ethics In The Aftermath Of Statement 'All Political Parties Agree To Amendment To The Constitution'

JAKARTA - The House of Representatives' Honorary Court (MKD) stated that member of Commission III of the House of Representatives Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) who served as Chairman of the MPR was proven to have violated the code of ethics related to the statement 'all political parties agreed to amend the refinement of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia'.

In the verdict hearing read by the Chief Justice of the MKD Adang Daradjatun, the DPR MKD imposed light sanctions on Bamsoet. The sanction was taken after considering the facts and witness statements.

"One, stated that the defendant was proven to have violated. Two, impose sanctions on the defendants trying to get light sanctions with a written warning. Three, the defendants should not repeat it and be more careful in their attitude," said Adang, Monday, June 24.

Adang explained that the MKD concluded that Bamsoet was proven to have violated the code of ethics after raising the testimony of the defendant, listening to the statements of witnesses and examining the evidence of the complainant's documents.

Adang said any action from an official must put the interests of the nation above the group. "Members in every action must express the interests of the nation and state rather than the personal interests of a person and a group," said Adang.

Adang emphasized that members of the DPR must carry out the mandate of the people and use their authority in the interests of the people.

"Members are responsible for carrying out the mandate of the people to carry out their duties fairly, comply with the law, respect the existence of legislative institutions and use the functions of their duties and authorities given to them for the benefit and welfare of the people," he concluded.

Previously, Bamsoet clarified that he had never stated that all political parties agreed to amend the improvement of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. However, it began with the word "if/if", so that the statement did not contain the meaning of prestige in order to move through existing political parties. As documented in television media coverage.

"So, it's wrong if I say I don't respect the invitation of friends at the MKD. In fact, I am happy because I can straighten out false accusations in the right place," said Bamsoet in his statement last week.

The deputy head of Golkar emphasized that even though he was not present, the Secretary General of the MPR had conveyed a notification of his absence with a flashdisk and transcript of his full statement or statement which became the material for clarification along with the Legal View of the Legal Bureau of the Secretary General of the MPR.

"As a form of clarification on the complaint submitted to the DPR RI MKD, I have sent a video recording along with a transcript of the coverage narrative from one of the national TV media in a press conference on June 5, 2024 which was used as the basis for the complaint material. At the same time to clarify that the complaint submitted to the MKD of the DPR RI was not correct," said Bamsoet.

"It is even reasonable to suspect that the reporter has spread false news or hoaxes that, apart from contradicting the Law on Information and Electronic Transactions, also tend to attack the honor of the MPR leadership," said Bamsoet.
