Immigration Service Begins To Recover After Data Center Moved

JAKARTA - Director General (Dirjen) of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) Silmy Karim ensured that immigration services had recovered after disturbances at the National Data Center (PDN).

"In this case, I appreciate the recovery measures carried out by colleagues at Immigration who acted quickly and worked 24 hours to restore the immigration system," said Silmy in a written statement, Monday, June 24, which was confiscated by Antara.

Silmy explained that the crossing system used for immigration checks digitally has recovered since Saturday, June 22 night.

The main points of immigration checks (TPI), he said, such as Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, I Gusti Ngurah Rai, Juanda, Kualanamu, Hang Nadim, and Batam Center Port and Nongsa were able to return to serve immigration checks.

He emphasized that the crossing application system had been running normally since its recovery on Saturday, June 22 evening. Meanwhile, autogates, visa applications, and residence permits were normal on Sunday, June 23 morning.

In addition, said Silmy, the M-Passport and Cekal Online applications are also fully operational normally as usual. The passport system is targeted to recover on Monday.

Immigration has decided to move the data center 12 hours since technical problems at the PDN of the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) were identified. Reactivation of the immigration system at the new data center takes 2 days.

"The transfer of the data center is to restore public services," he said.

Silmy explained that his party took this step after observing the recovery of PDN which did not show any positive developments on the first day of the disturbance on Thursday, June 20.

"Generally, technical problems can be resolved in 1 hour to 3 hours. When it has exceeded 6 hours, we conclude that there must be more than an attack than a technical problem, for example the problems caused by cyber attacks," he said.

Problems due to cyber attacks, he said, will usually take quite a long time, especially since ransomware attacks, so his party must decide to move data centers for the restoration of public services as well as state security factors.

The Director General of Immigration hopes that the PDN of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics will recover soon and return to normal, given the large number of other public services that depend on the PDN data center.

"We cannot wait for PDN to recover. Public interest is a priority in efforts to restore the system carried out by the IT Team of the Directorate General of Immigration so that people who will pass through and enter Indonesian territory can be served properly," said Silmy.
