Troubled Airbags, Toyota And Lexus Stop Sales And Recall Model SUVs In The US
JAKARTA - Bad news has returned from Toyota and Lexus. The reason is, these two brands announced that they will stop sales and hold recall on Grand Highlander and TX models in the United States (US) starting June 20.
According to the manufacturer, these two models were stopped by sales due to problems with the airbag. Thus, consumers in the US must be patient to have the three-line SUV.
Reporting from Motor1, Monday, June 24, the driver's side curtain airbag has the potential to not expand during a collision when the driver's side window is lowered. The airbag is designed to protect the upper body in the event of a collision.
This recall affects about 145,000 units of Grand Highlander and TX produced in 2024. Owners of these two SUV models will be notified of improvements in mid-August when Toyota has found a solution to the problem.
Both Toyota Grand Highlander and Lexus TX were produced at the same factory, namely Princeton, Indiana, USA. During 2024, the Sakura factory has sold 48,840 units of Grand Highlander and TX with 18,965 units.

This is one of the largest recall programs carried out by Toyota in uncle sam's country market. In February, this brand carried out a similar program involving 280,663 pickup trucks and SUVs.
The recall includes the Tundra, Tundra hybrid, and Lexus LX600 models produced between 2022 and 2024 and the Sequoia SUV assembled last year.
Local safety regulators have prompted companies to release software updates to address unexpected concerns when vehicles are neutral and braking is not implemented.
It was reported that a number of vehicles with problems shared the same type of transmission. The problem arises when the car is neutral and the brakes are not stepped on when the car is on a flat surface, but the vehicle can suddenly travel at a speed of 6 km/hour.
Not only pickups and SUVs, software problems also occur in sedan models from Toyota and Lexus. The recall involves the 2023 Mirai and LS models, 2023 ES 2023-2024, and LC 2024.
However, the case in this sedan is different, the problem arises because the rear camera does not work so it does not display images. According to reports, the error was caused by an ECU programming defect in the parking aid system which was equipped with a Panoramic View Monitor.
