Tottenham Opens Voice Regarding Currency Speech Against Son Heung-min
Tottenham Hotspur released a statement about Rodrigo Bentancur's racial insult to Son Heung-min.
As is known, Bentancur appeared on a Uruguay television. At that time, he was asked by the presenter to wear the Spurs T-shirt.
"The ownership of Sonny (Son Heung-min, ed)? It could be Sonny's cousin because they all look the same," he said at the time.
Shortly after, Bentancur realized that his statement contained racial content. As a result, he immediately apologized on his personal social media.
"Sony brother! I apologize to you for what happened, it was just a very bad joke."
"You know I love you and I will never demean you or leave you or someone else! I love you, my brother!" said Bentancur.
Son Heung-min immediately welcomed the apology. He accepted and understood that Bentancur did not intend to offend.

"We have gone through this, we are united, and we will return together in pre-season to fight for our club as a unit," said the South Korean player.
Meanwhile, Spurs also responded to the racist issue through an official statement. The club confirmed that Bentancur, who is also a player, would be given a warning.
In addition, Tottenham will also ensure the incident does not interfere with Son Heung-min's mentality.
"Following comments from Rodrigo Bentancur in the video clip of the interview and the player's next public apology, the club has provided assistance to ensure positive results on the matter."
"This will include further education for all players in line with the goals of our diversity, equality and inclusion."
"We fully support that our captain Sonny feels that he can draw the upper line of the incident and that the team can focus on the upcoming new season."
"We are very proud of our diverse global fanbase and playing team. Discrimination in any form has no place in our club, in our game, or in the wider community," reads a Spurs statement.
Bentancur and Son Heung-min have been playing together at Tottenham Hotspur since 2022.
Rodrigo Bentancur is contracted by Spurs in 2022. He made 69 appearances, with 25 appearances last season when Son captained.
