3 Villages In Kudus Prone To Landslide, BPBD Installs Early Warning Equipment

A total of three landslide-prone villages in Kudus Regency are now equipped with an early detection tool for the early warning system (EWS). This step is to minimize the impact of the potential natural disaster.

"The three villages installed by EWS are Menawan and Rahtawu Villages (Gebog District) and Japan Village (Dawe District)," said the Daily Executive of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Kudus Mundir in Kudus, Friday, June 21, as reported by Antara.

Of the three villages, he continued, for Menawan Village, there are two EWS installed in Kambangan Hamlet. Meanwhile, the other two EWS are installed in Semliro Hamlet, Rahtawu Village and Japan Lor Hamlet, Japan Village.

For today's installation, Friday, June 21, said Mundir, it was carried out in Japan Village which is assistance from the Central Java Provincial BPBD.

The EWS installation, he said, began with socialization activities related to potential natural disasters, one of which was landslides.

With EWS, it is hoped that it can minimize the impact of disasters because through these tools it will detect when there is a ground movement so that the siren will sound as a sign that people must rush to a place that is safer from landslides.

"Of the four EWS installed, all of them are assistance from the Central Java Provincial BPBD. Meanwhile, the installation locations are indeed in landslide-prone areas," he said.

Even though there is already an early detection tool, he hopes that the public will remain vigilant, including when they find out of soil cracks to be immediately anticipated by closing the location with tarpaulins or bases that can prevent rainwater from entering the ground.

Moreover, he added, Japan Village is a disaster-resilient village (destana), so that its people also have the ability to adapt independently to disaster-prone areas, face disaster threats, and recover immediately from the detrimental impacts of disasters.

Because before the establishment of the destination, he added, the local village also made a series of preparations, including preparing volunteers who were educated to become quality human resources (HR) that could be relied on in handling natural disasters.

The number of destinations in Kudus Regency itself is currently recorded at 33 villages out of 132 villages/kelurahan in Kudus Regency.
