President Director Of MIND ID Responds To Dirty Nickel's Campaign: Other Countries Feel Threatened

JAKARTA - President Director of MIND ID Hendi Prio Santoso opened his voice regarding the negative campaign related to Indonesia's leading commodity, nickel. This behavior has experienced negative campaigns related to Indonesian mining products such as 'Dirty Nickel'.

Hendi said that currently the government has prepared a draft Presidential Regulation which regulates commodity management to be critical and strategic.

"Flow forwards seem to have success, especially nickel, which makes other countries feel threatened, negative campaigns such as dirty nickel carried by other countries against Indonesian nickel industry products," said Hendi, quoted on Friday, June 21.

With this campaign, Indonesia's nickel products will then be subject to tariffs so that the price of nickel from Indonesia becomes uncompetitive in the eyes of the world.

Hendi said, Indonesia has great potential in managing strategic critical minerals. From the results of the study, it also shows that Indonesia's reserves in the world reach 60 percent, so that in the electric vehicle or EV industry, Indonesia has an important role.

"Nickel himself in Indonesia has a market of 60 percent of the world supply chain. Not to mention we have other derivative products that are used in EVs such as cobalt," explained Hendi.

Hendy also emphasized that his party assessed that the mining sector has an important role towards Indonesia Gold 2045 through the development of the downstream mining sector, including the management of critical minerals and strategic minerals. This is related to the development of the mining downstream industry which requires policy strengthening, law enforcement of synergies from stakeholders.

"Currently there are 47 critical minrals and 22 strategic minerals. Policies regarding critical and strategic have been determined by Permen at ESDM but we are also waiting for the draft regulation plan to regulate the governance of critical minerals and mineral strategies," concluded Hendi.
