The US Is Worried That The Iron Dome Against Israeli Missiles Will Be Overwhelmed In The Face Of Hezbollah Attacks

JAKARTA - United States (US) officials have serious concerns that in the event of a major war between Israel and Hezbollah, the militant group could overwhelm Israel's northern air defenses including the Iron Dome air defense system that is very proud of.

Concerns, which US officials say have also communicated to Israel about Iron Dome is vulnerable to the large arsenal of Hezbollah missiles and drones.

As reported by CNN, Thursday, June 20, Israeli officials told the US they planned to transfer troop resources from southern Gaza to northern Israel in preparation for a possible attack on the group, US officials told CNN.

"We estimate that at least some Iron Dome batteries will be overwhelmed," said a senior government official.

An Israeli official said this would be more likely if Hezbollah carried out a large-scale attack primarily using precision-guided weapons, which could pose a challenge to its defense system.

Hezbollah has been hoarding precision-guided ammunition and missiles from Iran for years, which Israel has repeatedly feared.

Earlier this month, Hezbollah released a video showing drones attacking and damaging Iron Dome batteries at military bases in northern Israel. The Israeli press reported this was the first documented example of a system that was successfully attacked.

The IDF said it was not aware of any damage to the system. But Israeli officials have told the US that they believe Iron Dome could be vulnerable, particularly in northern Israel, and they have been surprised by the sophistication of the Hezbollah attack to date, the two US officials said.
