Government Builds Gas Pipes Along 400 Km Dumai-Sei Mangkei Next Year

JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif revealed, the construction of a 400 km Dumai-Sei Mangkei Gas Pipe Transmission in 2025.

"After that (Cisem II), next year we will start Dumai-Sei Mangkei," said Arifin when met by the media at the General Directorate General of Oil and Gas Building (Ditjen Migas), Thursday, June 20.

Regarding the reason for accelerating the construction of the Aceh to Riau transmission pipeline, Arifin said this was intended so that industries that needed a supply of liquefied natural gas or Liquified Natural Gas did not need to send gas supplies from the Tangguh LNG Refinery located in West Papua Province to Aceh.

The reason is, the LNG sent from Papua to Aceh must be changed first to be disbursed and then sent by ship.

When the gas supply arrives in Arun, the LNG will be converted back into gas, then compressed back when taken to Belawan, North Sumatra.

"The cost is so expensive. So we use gas. Especially if the Andaman production can connect left and right," continued Arifin.

Previously, Arifin also said that the acceleration of the construction of this transmission pipeline was an anticipation of the giant findings from the Andaman Block.

"We must also continue to build infrastructure to accommodate additional gas supply from new production results that can be optimized. So the Cirebon-Semarang gas transmission project must be completed in early 2025. Then we must also start a transmission development program in the connection between Dumai and Sei Mangkei to anticipate additional production from the Andaman block," said Arifin, quoted on Tuesday, January 16.

The construction of gas infrastructure, continued Arifin, is to accommodate additional gas production from the Andaman Block so that gas supplies for domestic needs can be more secure.
