Failed To Overtake, Italian Foreigner Dies In Accident In Banyuwangi

BANYUWANGI - A foreign national (WNA) had an accident in Karetan Village, Purwoharjo District, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, last Tuesday. The victim, who came from Italy, died at the scene, while his son was seriously injured.

Head of Traffic for Muncar Police, Ipda Gatot Dri Handoko, said the victim, Fabrizio Panizzolo (60), was riding with his son AP (10), a resident of Sumberasri Village, Purwoharjo District, Banyuwangi.

Both of them drove on a Yamaha N Max motorcycle with police number DK 3903 FCL. The victim was riding a motorcycle from north to south at a moderate speed," said Gatot, Wednesday, June 19.

At the scene, from the opposite direction, a Daihatsu Taruna car with police number DK 1466 DG was driven by Suwardi (55), a resident of Karetan Village, Purwoharjo District, Banyuwangi.

"Suddenly the car swerved and headed towards the middle of the road. At the same time, the motorbike driven by a foreigner from Italy arrived and the collision was inevitable," said Gatot.

Fabrizio and his son fell to the asphalt and suffered quite severe injuries to the head.

Fabrizio's condition was reported to have died at the scene, while his son AP suffered a severe head injury and was rushed to the hospital.

"His father died and his son was in critical condition and was rushed to Bhakti Husada Krikilan Hospital," he said.

The police immediately identified the scene and secured two vehicles involved in the license plate battle accident. "For now, we are still asking the car driver for further information regarding the accident," he concluded.
