Collaborating With Toyota And Daihatsu, Suzuki Will Revive Cappuccino?
JAKARTA - Shocking news came from Suzuki. The manufacturer headquartered in Shizuoka, Japan is known to be preparing a number of the latest cars, one of which is returning the Cappuccino model.
According to a Best Car report, Wednesday, June 19, Suzuki plans to develop it together with other manufacturers in collaboration with Toyota and Daihatsu. Moreover, these two manufacturers also intend to revive two of its legendary small vehicles, namely Starlet and Copenhagen.
Toyota is developing a compact car to replace the Passo/Bon model sold in Japan, and the name "Starlet" will be revived on the car. It will likely be released in 2026.
In addition, the manufacturer will also create a sports version called GR Starlet. It is possible that the car will jump into a rally event with Rally4 regulations and will use a 3-cylinder turbo engine with 1.3 liters with a front wheel drive system (FWD).
Even though it has a small size, the engine is expected to have up to 150 ps of energy. However, the problem with turbo is that waste of fuel and Toyota are also trying to keep the car price low, considering that this is a compact sports model.
In addition, Toyota also plans to present another compact sports car called the S-FR. The model will be equipped with a 1.3 liter turbo engine or a modern version of Sports 800. The concept was exhibited in 2015, but the launch plan was cancelled. However, it is reported that this brand will build the model.
Then, Daihatsu also plans to return the Copenhagen model after the concept of 'Vision Copenhagen' was exhibited at the Japan Mobility Show last year. The car carries the same 1.3 liter engine as the S-FR.

What about Suzuki? The manufacturer with the 'S' logo is reported in joint development of building a 1.3 liter FWD-engined model. It is likely that Cappucino will use a machine from Toyota with the same configuration as the Starlet GR or SF-R.
Furthermore, Cappuccino will be a sports model with two convertible-style seats with a length of about 4,000 mm, a width of 1,700 to 1,730 mm. Thus, the model will have the same style as before.
Unfortunately, the presence of the model is still uncertain but is likely to arrive around 2027 and is expected to be priced at 3 million yen (IDR 311.7 million). Thus, the name 'Cappucino' will return to the surface of the automotive industry some 30 years ago.
Suzuki Cappuccino was first launched in 1991 as a roadster-style car with a compact two-wheeled seat. At its time, this car was also categorized as a kei car in the country of the rising sun.
The car carries a small 657 cc DOHC 3-cylinder engine with an alert transmission of five manual accelerations and three automatic accelerations, resulting in 63 dk of power at 6,500 rpm.
Production from this small car ended in October 1998 due to declining sales trends. At that time, Suzuki Cappuccino became rivals for other cars such as Autozam AZ-1 and Honda Beat.
