KLHK: International Falls Day Momentum To Guard Lestari Falls

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) said that the commemoration of International Falls Day should be a momentum for all parties to preserve waterfalls.

"Maintaining the waterfall is the same as maintaining the sustainability of the benefits of the surrounding ecosystem, economy and social," said Director General of Watershed Management and Forest Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Dyah Murtiningsih when contacted in Jakarta, Sunday, June 16.

Indonesia is one of the countries with a large number of waterfalls in the world. The waterfall is a natural geological formation that is part of the unity of the landscape of watersheds (DAS).

Dyah Murtiningsih said that judging from the potential aspects of its utilization and utilization, waterfalls need to be continuously encouraged to provide sustainability effects, such as alternative electrical energy sources, natural tourism, irrigation, and the community's economy.

"So that maintaining the waterfall, both in terms of quality, quantity, and continuity of water, is an inseparable part of efforts to manage watersheds holistically," he said as quoted by Antara.

International Falls Day is celebrated every June 16, coinciding with the peak of the summer when the waterfall flows rapidly. Through this warning, it is hoped that more people will be aware of the importance of the existence of waterfalls and be actively involved in conservation efforts to ensure the beauty and benefits of waterfalls can be enjoyed by future generations.
