Trenggalek Regency Government Uses PLN REC, So Initiator Of Clean Energy Use In Local Governments In East Java

JAKARTA - The Trenggalek Regency Government (Pemkab) has officially become the first regional government in East Java (East Java) to use clean energy through Renewable Energy Certificate (REC).

It is known that the Trenggalek Regency Government signed a memorandum of understanding with PT PLN (Persero) regarding the Green Energy as a Service (GEAS) service to use 200 units of REC or the equivalent of 200 megawatt hour (MWh).

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo explained, REC is a form of PLN service to make it easier for customers to get recognition for the use of EBT which is transparent, accountable, and recognized globally. Each REC certificate proves that electricity per megawatt hour (MWh) used by customers comes from the EBT generator.

"We really appreciate the steps taken by the Trenggalek Regency Government to initiate the use of REC within the Regional Government in Indonesia. This is an important step and collaboration in our journey to achieve NZE in 2060. PLN as its energy source is committed to providing the best service for the Trenggalek Regency Government in providing green electricity through the REC," explained Darmawan, Thursday, June 13.

General Manager of PLN East Java's Main Distribution Unit (UID), Agus Kuswardoyo, detailed that in East Java Province there were already 48 REC customers.

He hopes that the initiation of using REC by the Trenggalek Regency Government can be a motivation for other local governments to use clean energy that is more environmentally friendly.

"In East Java, there are currently 48 REC customers who are dominated by industrial customers with a total REC that has been issued up to 1,060,896 units equivalent to 1,060 GWh. We hope that in the future more governments and people will use clean energy through the PLN REC," said Agus.

According to Agus, the collaboration between PLN and the Trenggalek Regency Government is an example of collaboration in the energy transition agenda run by the Indonesian Government.

"This REC certificate is clear evidence that the use of renewable energy can be a solution for a greener future," concluded Agus.
