Many Accidents, The Majority Of US Drivers Support The Existence Of A Speed Limit Warning System In Vehicles

JAKARTA - Violation of the speed limit is the main cause of more than a quarter of deaths due to traffic accidents in Serkat America (US). In 2022 alone, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) report, this violation led to more than 12,000 deaths.

Ironically, in the past month about half of the drivers admitted to having exceeded the threshold of up to 24 km/hour, according to a report from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. Meanwhile, if you look closely at the speed threshold rules in the US according to the IIHS page, it ranges from 55 mph (88.5 km/h) to 80 mph (128.7 km/hour) according to the type of region and state in the US.

Launching Reuters, June 12, with the fact above IIHS also conducted a recent survey in the United States showing surprising results: more than 60 percent of drivers agree that their vehicle is equipped with an Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) system. The survey involved 1,802 drivers expressing their views on ISA technology.

Meanwhile, starting next month, the European Union will require all new vehicles to be equipped with an ISA system. The European Transportation Safety Council (European Transport Safety Council) explains that ISA is an in-vehicle technology that uses a velocity limit identification camera and/or GPS-based speed limit data to notify drivers of the current speed limit and warn them if they exceed it.

"With the technology we have today, we can almost stop all speed violations and get rid of ticketing. On the other hand, we appear to be walking in the opposite direction, with an adaptive cruise control system and partial automation that allows drivers to speed up to 90 mph (145 km/hour) if they wish", said Ian Reagan, senior IIHS researcher.

This survey shows the high potential for acceptance of the US driver speed limit warning system. It is hoped that this technology can help reduce the number of traffic violations and accidents, making roads safer for all users.
