Stellantis Mulai Program Recall Besar Model Yang Terdampak Airbag Takata

JAKARTA - Stellantis announced the expansion of vehicle withdrawals involving Citroen, DS, and Opel branded models.

According to a Reuters report, quoted Monday, June 10, the recall involved the Citroen C4, DS4, DS5, and several Opel models. The recall was caused by a damaged Takata airbag problem.

For Opel vehicles, the company did not mention any models that were affected, but the affected vehicles amounted to around 29,000 units equipped with Takata airbags.

According to the company's spokesman, a number of these models require preventive and not as stringent recall actions involving C3 and DS3 models, requiring affected vehicles to require more intense action.

The C4, DS4 and DS5 vehicles are based on different platforms using different airbag references and no case of failure has been identified, a company spokesperson said.

Earlier in early May, the parent company began a massive 'Stop Drive' withdrawal campaign involving the Citroen C3 and DS3 models of 500,000 units produced between 2009 and 2019 located in 24 different countries including in Southern, African, and Middle Europe.

An air bag inflator from Takata that can explode triggers the recall. In fact, the slightest accident can result in the explosion of Takata's air bag which results in injury and even death.

Stepping back further, in 2013 there was a mass recall involving millions of vehicles from various brands due to the airbag problem. Due to this incident, Takata went bankrupt in 2018.

Since 2009 cases of Takata airbags have surfaced, more than 30 deaths worldwide and hundreds of injured victims including 26 of them have occurred in the US.
