SAR Team Finds One Death Toll Due To Landslides In Lumajang

The joint SAR team again found one victim buried by a landslide in Pronojiwo Village, Lumajang Regency, East Java. The total number of victims found was 3 people.

"One victim on behalf of Rohim, a resident of Sidomulyo Village, Pronojiwo District, was found dead," said SAR Operations Commander Rudi Pragrara, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, June 6.

According to him, the body of the Rohim victim was found about 20 meters from the location where Dwi Suprapto was found, who was previously found on Wednesday (5/6).

"Collision of joint personnel is trying their best to search for landslide victims using several methods, namely the use of sniffer dogs, manual equipment (such as hoes and shovels), drones to the use of heavy equipment in the form of excavators," he said.

He explained that the joint SAR team conducted a permanent search on the west side of the landslide cliff because his party was worried that there would be further landslides on the eastern cliff because the potential for landslides was still there.

"We continue to prioritize the safety of the SAR Team in searching for victims, so that the search process is carried out to the west, including heavy equipment and also directed to the west," said Rudi who is also Basarnas Jember.

Until the third day of the search process, three landslide victims were found dead, namely Kusnadi (40), a resident of Pronojiwo Village, were found first on Tuesday (4/6) afternoon, then on Wednesday (5/6) Dwi Suprapto was found and this Thursday the victim of Rohim was found.

"There is still one victim who has not been found, namely Junaidi (26), a resident of Malang Regency. The search process tonight has been temporarily suspended and the search will continue on Friday (7/6) morning," he said.

As previously reported, the river cliffs in the lava flow of Mount Semeru in Supit Hamlet, Pronojiwo Village/District, landslides on the east side, so that avalanche material points to the west which hit local sand mining workers in the local hamlet on Tuesday (4/6).

Five miners were at the location, but one miner Abdul Latif managed to survive the landslides, while four other miners namely Junaedi, Dwi Suprapto, Kusnadi and Rohim were buried by landslides as high as 15-20 meters.
