Jabodetabek Workers Reject Tapera, Hold Demonstrations Around Monas Thursday Morning
JAKARTA - Thousands of workers will hold demonstrations against the implementation of Government Regulation (PP) Number 21 of 2024 concerning Amendments to Government Regulation Number 25 of 2020 concerning the Implementation of Public Housing Savings (Tapera).
The President of the Labor Party who is also the President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) Said Iqbal said the demonstration would be held in front of the Palace on Thursday 6 June. The action began at 10.00 with a gathering point in front of the City Hall and moved to the Palace through the Horse Statue area.
"Thousands of workers who will take this action come from Jabodetabek and various union organizations such as KSPI, KSPSI, KPBI, and also the Indonesian Farmers' Union (SPI) and the Women's Organization PERCAYA," Said Iqbal said in his statement, Thursday 6 June.
According to Said Iqbal, Tapera's contribution policy is detrimental and burdens workers. He said that even though he had done the dues for 10 to 20 years, the workers still did not provide certainty that they could own a house.

"In Tapera, the government is considered to have lost responsibility in providing housing. This is because the Government only acts as a collection of contributions, does not allocate funds from the APBN or APBD. Another problem is that Tapera funds are prone to corruption, as well as unclear and complexities in disbursement of funds," he continued.
In addition to the action against PP Tapera, another issue raised in this action was rejecting expensive single tuition fees (UKT), rejecting KRIS BPJS Kesehatan, rejecting the Omnibuslaw of the Job Creation Law, and removing out-sourcing against low wages (HOSTUM).
