The Ministry Of Industry Is Cooperating With JICA To Develop The Electric Vehicle Industry
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have established strategic cooperation to encourage the development of the electric vehicle industry. This collaboration is realized in the form of implementing a survey on electric motorcycles in Indonesia.
The survey was designed to understand the estimates and problems related to the demand and supply of electric motorcycles (e-bikes) in Indonesia, in line with the objectives of the roadmap for the national automotive industry.
In the series of survey activities, the JICA Final Seminar was also held entitled The Survey on Data Collection on the Promotion of the Electric Motorcycle Industry and Strengthening Supply Chains in Indonesia on May 29, 2024.
"This seminar aims to discuss important findings from a survey which is a project unit during the period May 2023 to July 2024," said Expert Staff of the Minister for Strengthening Domestic Industrial Ability Ignatius Warsito in a written statement, Wednesday, June 5.
The Indonesian government also has a target to increase the number of e-bikes in the country to 4.5 million units per year or equivalent to 30 percent of the total sales of two-wheeled motorcycles by 2035.
This target is in line with Indonesia's commitment to encourage the use of e-bikes domestically and make Indonesia a major component sales and production center, such as batteries in the Southeast Asia region.

"This effort is strengthened by the plan to build 32.000 public battery charging/exchange stations by 2030 as well as providing attractive incentives for e-bike owners, such as electricity tariff cuts and tax breaks," he said.
According to Warsito, the rapid development of the electric vehicle industry in Indonesia is believed to create new jobs, reduce the environmental impact of using conventional motorized vehicles and make Indonesia a major player in the e-mobility industry in Southeast Asia.
"The collaboration between the Ministry of Industry and JICA is expected to be an important step to encourage economic growth, innovation and technological transformation in Indonesia," he added.
