Jokowi Groundbreaking PLN Hub At IKN: 100 Percent Must Use Green Energy

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the laying of the first stone or groundbreaking for the construction of the PLN Hub as a smart electricity telecommunication and digital center in IKN, East Kalimantan, today.

Jokowi emphasized that all energy needs in the IKN area must use green energy.

Jokowi said that the PLN Hub was built to collect all stakeholders or partners related to PT PLN (Persero). The provision of energy at IKN will utilize solar, water, and wind energy.

"I have said 100 percent must use green energy, either from solar panels currently being carried out by PT PLN, as well as hydro power maybe from Mahakam or others and maybe from the wind and others," Jokowi said as seen on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Wednesday, June 5.

He explained that Indonesia has around 4,400 rivers. For example, the Kayan River in North Kalimantan (Kaltara) which can produce electricity reaching 11,000 to 13,000 MW.

Then, the Mamberamo River in Papua Province reached 23,000 MW.

"Once again, everyone asks whether there is green energy or not. No one else asks me if I want to use a coal power plant, no," said Jokowi.

According to Jokowi, Indonesia has the potential to produce this green energy because it is supported by qualified sources.

"Always the question, is this geothermal, is this hydro power, is this from the wind. And that great power is in our country. This is what we want to use," he said.

"I think that's what I want to convey on this good occasion. By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, today the groundbreaking of PLN Hub as a smart electricity telecommunication and digital center, I officially declare that it has started," he added.
