Nissan Make Sure Not To Develop The Latest ICE And Diesel Machines

JAKARTA - Manufacturers from Japan such as Toyota, Subaru, and Mazda have committed to developing the latest internal combustion engine (ICE) that is more environmentally friendly with the achievement of decarbonization. However, other rivals such as Nissan chose a different approach.

The Japanese-based manufacturer emphasized that it will no longer develop the latest ICE and diesel machines. Thus, this further strengthens brand commitments in the transition to complete electrification.

Senior Nissan Vice President and Chief Planning Officer Africa, Middle East, India, Europe, and Oceania Francois Bally, said that it would fully commit to EVs and abandon old technologies such as diesel.

"Our future is EV, e-Power is a stepping stone to achieving that goal, and each market will move with its own speed," said Bally, quoted from Drive, Tuesday, June 4.

The e-Power hybrid system is currently available in various Nissan models on the global market, consisting of Serena, Kicks, Qashqai, and X-Trail. In fact, the manufacturer indicates that this technology will be extended to various models such as Juke and Pathfinder in the future.

Furthermore, this technology will be adopted in Navara's next generation with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) as this latest model shares the platform with Mitsubishi Triton.

Although it reveals that they are no longer investing in combustion engines, this electrification plan cannot happen instantly. Nissan will adjust to several regulations in various regions, for example Africa, which still legalizes Euro 2 standard cars.

African markets such as Euro2, Euro4, so ICE's decline rate depends heavily on the market per market, but our investment clearly leads to EVs, reinforced by e-Power,

Thus, the ICE engine production shutdown will be carried out in stages. The current engine is likely to be updated to comply with stricter regulations.
