Do Vessel Trading, PIS Tembus 2 New Routes In Africa

JAKARTA - PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) through the PIS Middle East (PIS ME) branch office has successfully penetrated the new market by conducting Vessel trading in the African region and adding 2 new international shipping routes.

"PIS Middle East has succeeded in obtaining a cooperation contract for the Transko Yudhistira ship. This business collaboration is to transport fuel oil products in the West African region. Through this collaboration, PIS has also succeeded in increasing its international new routes in the African market with the new destinations of Mauritius and Togo," said PIS Corporate Secretary Muh Aryomekka Firdaus, Monday, June 3.

Aryomekka explained that this step is part of a new market penetration strategy that is in line with the increasing demand for ships for the distribution of fuel oil products in the region.

PIS Middle East (PIS ME) is part of PIS Asia Pacific, a subsidiary of PIS which is the motor of global market expansion. PIS ME is domiciled in Dubai and has been operating since the end of 2022 to work on Middle Eastern, European, and African regions.

This business opportunity stems from the operation of the Dangote refinery with a capacity of 650 thousand barrels per day in Nigeria in December 2023.

Then, PIS Middle East tried to seize this opportunity and managed to pocket a business agreement with a contract period of 2 years worth 9.3 million US dollars for the Transko Yudhistira ship.

"After all the preparations were made, the Transko Yudhistira ship departed from Tanjung Priok, on February 11, 2024. Then carried out bunkering and other preparations at Port of Louis Mauritius until early March 2024, and was successfully delivered to the tenants at the end of March," he continued.

Before departing for Africa, the Transko Yudhistira ship traveled a series of specifications assessments to meet operational needs.

Including risk assessment with the results of identification of several risks that need to be mitigated, such as the impact of waves during the ballistic process on West Africa, fuel compatibility, and the safety of potential piracy attacks.

This includes preparing travel plans and safe bunkering for ships, renting an Arm Guard/EScort when entering the High Risk Area and other mitigation carried out both on board and on land.

"With the start of this operation, PIS shows its commitment to supporting energy distribution and increasing its role as a global player," concluded Aryomekka.

Just so you know, the Transko Yudhistira ship is an oil tanker with a capacity of around 8309 cubic meters or the equivalent of 52,262 barrels.

Transko Yudhistira has been tested for passing the SIRE or Ship Inspection Report Program, namely international standard certification issued by the Oil Company Industry Marine Forum (OCIMF), so that ships can start serving international routes.
