Floods In Enrekang Soak Dozens Of Houses And Paralyze Trans-Sulawesi Roads

ENREKANG - Floods due to heavy rains and overflow of the Kabere River in Taulan Village, Cendana District, Enrekang Regency, South Sulawesi (Sulsel) on Sunday, June 2, 2024 night submerged dozens of houses and road connecting districts.

This condition had paralyzed the trans-Sulawesi route. Vehicles from two directions, either going to Pinrang Regency or to Enrekang Regency, cannot pass.

The queue of hundreds of vehicles at the flood site reached 8 kilometers and was trapped for approximately 5 hours. The new vehicle can pass after the river recedes.

"River water overflows often occur every year. It is hoped that the provincial and central governments will immediately intervene to strengthen abrasion river cliffs so that every rainy season residents can avoid inundation," said Acting Regent Enrekang H Baba, Sunday, June 2.

Not only in Taulan Village, but the flood also inundated Lewaja Village due to the overflow of the Sikuku River. The flood also resulted in a number of residents' houses being submerged.
